MUSIC

The music program at Holy Family Cathedral School is designed to develop a life long appreciation of music through exposure to a wide variety of musical genres from many different cultures, age appropriate instruction in music theory, singing and instruments, and participation in individual and group performances.

Music plays an integral part in the academic, social and spiritual lives of the students as they develop their own musical intelligence and communication skills.

Much of the music curriculum is based on the Orff-Schulwerk process of teaching music to children through elementary music. Among the many goals of the Orff-Schulwerk are:

  • The sense of community
  • The understanding of the organization of music
  • Comprehension of music as an art
  • Musical independence
  • Personal music growth
  • Performance ability
  • Self-esteem
In the Orff-Schulwerk process the children learn musical principles through games using the voice, movement, literature, and many different pitched and un-pitched percussion instruments. This process is specifically designed to meet the many learning styles and needs of the children of our school.

Special Events
The children perform in two Christmas Musicals each year. There is one for Preschool through 4th grade and one for 5th through 8th grade.
