Music

At Holy Family Catholic School, we believe that:

  • Music is a gift from God
  • Each student is a unique creation of God
  • Each student is entitled to a comprehensive music education as a core discipline that is a vital part of the total school experience

In weekly music classes, students in grades TK-8th grade participate in fun and engaging activities that help students develop musical skills in a whole group setting. The basic elements of music - melody, harmony, rhythm and form - are taught through activities that incorporate singing, moving, listening, performing, composing/improvising, playing instruments, and reading/writing music. By studying different musical genres and music from other cultures, students develop respect for diverse cultures and an appreciation for other points of view.

During a “traditional” school year, in addition to classroom music instruction, our music program features:

  • Ukulele instruction for upper grades
  • Annual Christmas Program – all students
  • Spring Talent Show – students participate by audition
  • Music at Morning Assembly and School Masses

We also have an extracurricular program of 2 performing choirs that rehearse after school once a week.
The Choristers (5th-8th grade), and The Saint Gabriel Singers (3rd-4th grade)
Our choir students perform at school functions and school masses, in addition to participating in some of the following:

o   Junior High Honors Choir with Mater Dei High School

o   Catholic Choral Festival (Pueri Cantores)

o   Diocesan Choral Festivals

o   Community Events and Field Trips
