hello I'm Teresa Tita Smith and I'm very pleased to be here today with the student council of Holy Family School I myself I'm a proud Spartan I attended Holy Family School from 1953 when I entered first grade to graduating in 1961 and it's a to be back here with students today well I had two favorite sisters I was so lucky I got to have her as my 4th grade teacher and my 5th grade teacher and she was very athletic and taught us to play softball is she could hit a softball from home plate all the way into the creek she herself and she also we would beg her to do that but she would only do it about three times a year and she was very patient with us and she made everything seem really real and sent to today she herself was from Massachusetts for California kids that was like all the way across the world and she used to tell us about Gloucester Massachusetts where screw up and I just loved her so much that I took her name Carmela as my confirmation name anything naughty while you're here at Holy Family  I certainly do yes and there was an incident when I was in the eighth grade that was really bad and this is what happened I see over in this classroom there's that beautiful statue of our Lady and in our eighth grade classroom are play with their up higher than she is here at close to the door and Sister Mary Jane was our 8th grade teacher and she had to leave the classroom for a few minutes so she said no talking everyone please fold your hands and sit up straight I will be right back and she barely had stepped out of the classroom and a football when's thing across all the way from the back corner and knocked our lady off of the shelf by so she fell all the way to the floor sister was just outside the door so she came back in and saw the statue of our Blessed Mother on them floor and nobody could say word everyone was just petrified and we we got in quite a bit of trouble play package you life today oh my goodness so grateful for I learned how to read and write and think to be inquisitive but Catholic Education is about being Catholic I also learned about Jesus about his teachings about God about our responsibility as Catholics to be of service always not just to the people around us but to the larger community in which we live and also to be aware of the whole big world to be a global citizen I learned that account that was the most probably amazing thing that's carried with me through all of my life I thank you so very much Holy Family students for invite here today it's been wonderful to talk with you and kind of take me back in my memory to the days when I was a holy family student I have always so proud to have gone to Holy Family School especially to have had a Catholic Education I think that the main lesson that I took away from holy family is that nobody just lives in a vacuum everybody is connected in one way or another and we're all connected to our faith in God and our particular Catholic faith which says that we must always look outside ourselves and outside our school Community to where there is need and what we can do to make it a better world to help people live the margins of society I don't know that I would have gotten that in a different school I'm so grateful to be a graduate of Holy Family School and I'm inspired to meet all of you too because you're so beautiful you have such great lives ahead of you I know many of your family members your parents some of them I told her that you are right now actually when I knew them and so I think I'll roll some good hands and your Catholic Education will serve you well thank you very much for your time this afternoon
